Abstract This work presents an experimental and numerical investigation of the laminar-turbulent transition secondary flow structures in a turbine rear structure (TRS). The study was executed at engine representative Reynolds number inlet conditions three different load cases. Experiments were performed annular rotating rig with shrouded low-pressure upstream TRS test section. results obtained using shear stress transport k − ω turbulence model Langtry–Menter γ θ model. boundary layer location entire vane suction side is investigated. onset length are measured IR-thermography along span. approach validated hot-wire measurements. Both experiments computational fluid dynamics (CFD) show large variations span strong influences from endwalls outlet conditions. agree well traditional correlations near midspan that independent acceleration parameter. However, CFD tends to predict early region late present hub region. Furthermore, region, shown overpredict transverse related losses.
